Training - Fitness
Off Season
Off-season training starts about mid July, and is in the gym, as it is too cold and dark on the water.
Attendance at off-season training forms part of the attendance requirement for selection to the Paddling Squad.
On the water - weekdays
Members are expected to turn up for boat training, which is on the Avon River, from Owles Terrace, New Brighton.
This starts late October (that is, after Labour Weekend) and is held on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm (unless otherwise notified).
Weekend training
Further training is held on Saturday morning from 10 to 11 am. We like to be at training half an hour before, so we can warm up, get teh boat out of the shed and down the ramp and be on the water sharp at 6 pm (Tuesdays) and 10 am (Saturday) for the scheduled training slots. Training times are heavily booked so we need to be on and off the water promptly.
A tip out may also be scheduled once each season - remember that all team members must be able to swim 50 metres.
The season finishes in mid-late March, and then winter training begins - walking, aquacise, gym training, etc.
